insists on having at least one British

battalion in the Colony.

The result

is that while

the troops in Hong Kong consist of three

British battalions and one Indian battalion,

only two battalions are available for use in

China instead of three, which it was contem-

plated in the Governor's despatch of 3rd

October 1927, should be available.
